Angela Hey is a management consultant who helps ventures commercialize technology and launch new products. She also helps companies assess technology partners and discover new markets. Companies engage Angela because she can see the big picture, as well as understanding technology details. She draws on her wide experience and industry contacts to propel businesses to new levels.
As a marketing manager, Angela created plans, launched products and gave presentations. She has worked with mobile devices, smart antennas, character recognition scanners and enterprise software. She combines executive ideas with hands-on execution, rapidly creating materials for sales support, websites and publications.
As a technologist, Angela started by solving set covering algorithms using mathematical programming, network and graph theory algorithms. She worked with telephone companies, demonstrating how software standards could reduce costs and looking at interfaces for hundreds of operations support systems. In corporate R&D, she has advised managers on how to move products from the lab to the marketplace. As a hobby, she keeps up her skills by developing websites using content management systems, online services and commercial packages.
As an analyst, Angela has written market research reports on enterprise software, advised on computer industry acquisitions and given executive seminars. She has also analyzed markets for semiconductors, messaging systems and open source software.
As a technology reporter, Angela has followed a wide range of software companies, including those in search, shopping, security and sports.
As a volunteer, Angela helps organize the Freemium San Francisco Bay Meetup group. She has also worked as a mentor for Cleantech Open. She serves as the secretary of the Sustainability Committee of Portola Valley where she is responsible for the website coolpv.com. She also served on the San Mateo County Community, Contractor and Community Building Officer Advisory Board for Energy Upgrade programs.
She has worked at Bell Laboratories, AT&T, General Magic and INPUT. Her direct consulting clients include the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Citibank, Sun Microsystems, Toshiba, Attachmate and many entrepreneurial startups. She has also consulted to various venture capital firms, including Technology Venture Investors (forerunner to August Capital and Benchmark), Hummer Winblad and USVP. Indirect clients, she has consulted to while working through other firms have included IBM, Siemens, NTT, NEC and Accenture.
She has worked with MS Windows, UNIX, Ubuntu Linux, mainframe, supercomputer, minicomputer and Mac platforms.Her web experience includes PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, Microsoft Office FrontPage, Adobe Dreamweaver, PMWiki and MySQL.
Her degrees include a PhD in Management Science from Imperial College, London, MMath in Combinatorics and Optimization from the University of Waterloo and MA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
